Case Study: Osgood Water Treatment Plant Floor Restoration Project

After years of chemical spills and chloride infiltration the concrete floor of the Osgood WTP facility was in need of repair. The floor was assessed and since the elevated slab was structurally sound, the most effective solution was implemented.

One of the first challenges to overcome was dust control. Since the activities of production could not be shut down, sensitive computers and sensors monitoring water chemical levels were still active in the room during construction. Also an open holding tank of freshwater in the next room could not be contaminated. Special measures were taken to control dust during the removal process. A dust collection system was put in place while preparing the floor. Prior to the epoxy coating being installed.

After the deteriorated concrete areas were removed the existing concrete was removed behind the number 6 steel reinforcement bars. The corrosion was removed from the reinforcing bars. Then bars were then coated with Sika Armatec 110 EpoCem; a bonding primer and reinforcement corrosion protection system. SikaTop 122 Plus was installed to patch the repair areas. After that cured the whole floor was ground in preparation for the epoxy floor coating.

In the final step of the epoxy floor system a polyaspartic topcoat was installed. The purpose of the application is to protect the floor from future spills and chloride intrusion. As you can see from the last picture. The floor also reflects the room lighting. Therefore creating greater visibility. We install a variety of epoxy coatings to meet the needs of different industries.
